The WCO-IOF-ESCEO Congress in Rome in April was certainly a resounding success once more, with almost 9,000 attendees, both physical and virtual. The talks were great and covered a wide range of topics. As Chair of the Patient Societies Sub-Committee, Tereza Hough also participated in the biennial CNS Day for Patient Societies, as well as delivered a talk on the painful and slow process of trying to implement Fracture Liaison Services (FLS) in South Africa.

The IOF-ESCEO World Congress on Osteoporosis was held in London from 10 to 13 April 2024 and was well attended by approximately 7,000 delegates, both physically and virtually. It is always good to connect and network with like-minded people from across the globe. It was great to have been instrumental in helping Zimbabwe set up their Osteoporosis Society and being involved with Countries like Uganda and Malawi, who want to be part of the bone fraternity!

On 2 September 2023, a handful of brave souls faced the wet and windy Cape Town weather to
run along the vines at the beautiful Groot Constantia Wine Estate. Although not everyone who
registered showed up, those who participated showed great spirit!

The WCO-IOF-ESCEO meeting post-COVID in Barcelona was a very successful congress attended by more
than 7000 delegates physically and virtually. Our Chairman, Dr Tobie de Villiers also participated and visited the
NOFSA booth. The World Osteoporosis Day Best Campaign Award was presented during the Patient National Societies Day 2023, on May 6th and awarded to NOFSA for a campaign where we partnered with GAfPA – the Global Alliance for Patient Access and sponsored by AMGEN.

During 2022 we hosted our Rattle Them Bones Fun Run in Durbanville at Meerendal.  We also had a virtual run for entrants across South Africa who rattled their bones to create awareness.

Every year our bone health ambassadors come together to rattle them bones and spead awareness about osteoporosis.  Up until 2020 this event took place in Durbanville, but due to Covid-19 our fun run has transformed into a virtual run.

Donning masks and dressed up in glamour our loyal patrons supported our organisation every year by attending a masked ball. Due to Covid-19 this fundraiser has unfortunately been put on on hold but we hope to be able to host many more fun evenings in future.

During 2020 and the onset of Covid-19 we had to think out of the box and hosted a Virtual Cook-a-Long session with Chef, Jonno Proudfoot for our members. We focused on calcium rich foods.  Our loyal sponsors sponsored some prizes for some of the entrants.

NOFSA is responsible for hosting an annual medical congress to discuss the latest research findings, case studies and information about osteoporosis with practitioners. This event features some of the world’s best medical experts in their field.  This congress was held at The Protea Hotel in Stellenbosch. The congress is CPD accredited.

NOFSA held its annual fun run in Durbanville and young and old from the community came to support our worthy cause.
